While a resolution approved by the Council was not required to apply for the grant, Hinken said he believed there would be no harm in showing the Council’s support and willingness to commit $90,000 in city funds toward the project. If the grant were to be approved, the state would provide 80% of the funding, while the city would provide a 20% local match, resulting in $360,000 of grant funds and $90,000 from the city’s Major Streets fund to complete the project. Unfortunately, we have other needs elsewhere that perhaps may be more appealing to MDOT so we are suggesting that you consider applying for the reconstruction of a portion of Greenville West Drive.”Īccording to Hinken, the project would cost an estimated $450,000. Most recently, we applied for funds to complete only a portion of the roadway through MDOT’s Category F program. “We have tried unsuccessfully to obtain funding from the State for the reconstruction of Industrial Park Drive for several years now,” he said.
